I have been flying with Universal Air Academy for 5 years now and would recommend them to anyone seeking aircraft rental or flight training in airplanes or helicopters. I received my helicopter rating through them and was very pleased. I have flown with many other flight schools over the years and have not been as happy. The folks at Universal (instructors and staff) are very friendly and knowledgeable. I recently started taking flying lessons and I can't be happier. My instructor Chris is a very professional, knowledgeable and seasoned aviator. His friendly demeanor and encouragements allow me to make quick progress. I very badly wanted to get my pilot's license, but was on a budget and needed to be cost conscious. After searching the entire LA area for flight schools, I chose Universal quite frankly because it was one of the more affordable flight schools. I was happy to discover that the quality of the education I have been receiving is not compromised by its affordability. I am extremely happy with my current instructor who suits my learning style very well (remember to be discriminating when choosing your primary instructor... you are the customer and have a right to get what you pay for!). Universal is a great place for beginning pilots to learn because of its location (El Monte airport). The airport is nice,small and low-key, not too busy. Compared to other area flight schools, they have a very diverse fleet of aircraft including a variety of Cessnas, Pipers and Robinson helicopters.
